PROFESSIONAL DIVER TRAINING

NON-DIVING SPECIALTY INSTRUCTOR
The TDI Non-Diving Specialty Instructor Course is designed to teach members of the scuba diving industry such as: store owners, service technicians, etc. the knowledge to safely function as an independent instructor of the non-diving specialties listed below:

Visual Inspection Procedures
Other non-diving specialties, i.e. unique specialties, offered by TDI (subject to headquarter’s approval)
In order to become an instructor for one of the above courses; a candidate must be certified by a qualified instructor trainer; experience based upgrades are not available. Instructors who hold equivalent certifications with a recognized agency and wish to cross over as a non-diving specialty instructor may do so by applying via current instructor crossover procedures.

Who this course is for:
An individual that does not hold a dive professional rating but is qualified to teach a non-diving program

TDI TECHNICAL DIVEMASTER
The TDI Divemaster Course is the first professional level certification in the TDI leadership levels. During this course you will be challenged and learn what it is like to work with divers as they begin or continue their technical diving experiences. You will learn how to manage divers, work as land or boat support, and conduct enjoyable dives. Dive physics, physiology, how conduct pre-dive briefing, how to assist technical instructors as well as how to be a professional TDI Divemaster is all part of the course. Your skills will be refined to demonstration quality and your knowledge increased to that of a technical diving professional.

SDI Divemaster who are certified technical divers and want to assist with TDI Diver Courses and lead technical dives at the level they are certified to dive

TDI INSTRUCTOR
Are you an experienced dive instructor and passionate technical diver, and do you want to join the ranks of some the top technical diving instructors in the world? Get started with a TDI Instructor Course. Starting at the entry levels, you will learn the fundamentals skills, requirements and be evaluated on proper techniques for conducting technical diver courses. As you gain teaching and diving experience, you will qualify to enter higher level instructor programs.

The experienced active dive instructor and technical diver who is looking to share their passion for technical diving with others

TDI INSTRUCTOR TRAINER
The Instructor Trainer Workshop (ITW) is an intense eight day course that includes academic, pool, and open water sessions. The ITW trains candidates as full evaluators, to conduct TDI Instructor Courses independently. A corresponding, current instructor level rating must be held for all IT levels, along with minimum student certifications as detailed in this outline. During this course, you will work directly with the headquarters staff presenting and evaluating various subjects such as: methods of instruction, dive leader risk management, the business of scuba diving, as well as teaching technical instructor level courses.

The objective of this course is to train candidates in the proper procedures needed for the preparation and blending of high quality nitrox and trimix gases for use in technical diving. The TDI Advanced Gas Blender course will take you through this process in an easy-to-understand format.

TDI OXYGEN (O2) EQUIPMENT SERVICE TECHNICIAN

The TDI Oxygen (O2) Equipment Service Technician Course allows candidates the ability to engage in the preparation of scuba equipment for the use and exposure of oxygen and other mixed gasses used in technical diving. The objective of this course is to train candidates in the proper procedures required for oxygen equipment cleaning. This course may be combined with the Visual Inspection Procedures course at the discretion of the Instructor.

ERDI – Public Safety Diver Training

ERDI is a Public Safety Diving (PSD) agency that trains police, fire, and other public safety organizations in search and rescue techniques that apply to almost any submerged environment.

ERDI trains departments on how to make and maintain PSD teams and is the only public safety dive training agency that has its own insurance and endorses its own standards. In fact, some of the largest, most successful, and renown public safety departments use ERDI Programs to conduct training.

ERD TENDER
The ERD Tender Course trains team personnel to properly line tend and participate within the public safety dive team in a non-diving roll. The ERD Tender role is so critical to the success of the mission and the team, some teams utilize their most experienced diver to fulfill the role.

Any team that is deploying divers in to the water
Any team that has not been formal trained on the proper tending of divers

The ERD Surface Ice Rescue Ops component is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for public safety teams to properly respond and execute operations on or near thin ice conditions.

Any public safety professional who would like to assist with ice rescue operations on a non-diving role
Any public safety professional who performs missions on or around frozen bodies of water
Any public safety dive team professional who has not been formally trained for surface ice rescue

ERD I
This first level Emergency Response Diving Course is designed to give the certified open water diver, or open water certified public safety diver, the fundamental skills needed to safely function as part of an OSHA and NFPA compliant public safety dive team in both the diver and tender roles.

A certified open water diver who is currently a public safety professional
A certified open water diver who would like to operate and support persons within a dive team organization

ERD II
The ERD II Course furthers the public safety diver’s knowledge and advances skill sets for emergency response diving. ERD SUPERVISOR
The ERD Supervisor Course is to qualify the experienced emergency response divers to supervise emergency response diving teams. It also serves to develop leadership qualities as a prerequisite for ERDI Instructor.

An ERD certified public safety dive team member looking to advance in a supervisory role
An ERD certified public safety dive team member seeking skills and knowledge to assist an ERD Instructor
A public safety diver looking to maintain team standardization and safety in compliance with OSHA and NFPA guidelines

ERD II
The ERD II Course furthers the public safety diver’s knowledge and advances skill sets for emergency response diving. The ERD II Course will examine lifting techniques, encapsulation, a victim’s death, as well as, physiological changes a submerged body undergoes, mechanics of drowning, handling of remains, environmental issues, full face mask and dry suit use.

Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member who engages in rescue and recovery operations
Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member looking to increase their diver awareness and skills
Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member who is seeking the ability to enroll in ERDI II Ops Component training
Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member looking to become an ERDI Supervisor

ERD INSTRUCTOR TRAINER
This program trains candidates to conduct the ERDI Instructor Course. In addition, ERDI Instructor Trainers are qualified to conduct the ERDI Non-Diving Ops Instructor Course and Ops Instructor ratings for ERDI Instructors. A corresponding, current instructor level rating must be held for all IT levels, along with minimum student certifications as detailed in this outline. ERD II

The ERD II Course will examine lifting techniques, encapsulation, a victim’s death, as well as, physiological changes a submerged body undergoes, mechanics of drowning, handling of remains, environmental issues, full face mask and dry suit use.

Who this course is for:
Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member who engages in rescue and recovery operations
Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member looking to increase their diver awareness and skills
Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member who is seeking the ability to enroll in ERDI II Ops Component training
Any certified ERD I Public Safety Diver or team member looking to become an ERDI Supervisor

ERD CONFINED SPACE OPERATIONS
The ERDI Confined Space Operations component is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for limited confined space operations in emergency response conditions. This course complies with NFPA 1006 and 1670, OSHA, and FEMA for water rescue.

Who this course is for:
Any ERD II certified member of a public safety dive team who responds to operations in/near swift water found in high hills, mountain areas or in flash flood areas
Any ERD II certified member of a public safety dive team who responds to calls in rural and urban environments where water may be moving swiftly
Any ERD II certified public safety dive team member who would like to further educate themselves on the risks and procedures involved in swift water incidents

ERDI UNDERWATER EXPLOSIVE RECOVERY SPECIALIST
The objective of this training is to secure these underwater explosives or hazardous devices, remotely raise them to the surface, and then render safe or dispose of them on shore. This class also provides training in how to properly conduct a thorough and detailed underwater post blast or arson investigation.

This class does not intend to duplicate the training or replace the outstanding work performed by military EOD Personnel. In most civilian criminal cases, due to constitutional restrictions, military personnel are unable to give hands-on assistance. Law enforcement personnel or fire fighters, who are EOD trained and certified SCUBA divers are then called upon to recover explosives or devices underwater, require specialized and proper training and equipment to carry out this dangerous task in as safe a manner as possible.

Student Prerequisites – Students should be at a minimum a SDI Advanced and Rescue Diver or equivalent. In addition, the student must be a graduate of HDS or EOD School, and a member of their departments Explosive Disposal Unit.

The ERD Full Face Mask Course provides the skills and knowledge for the ERD diver to utilize full face masks for emergency response diving.

Who this course is for:
A certified ERD I diver who will complete missions requiring a full face mask
A certified ERD I diver who engages has not been formally trained on a full face mask
A certified ERD I diver working towards ERD II Ops

ERDI HULL INSPECTION
This course is designed to provide information and hands on training to students and dive team members who may be called upon to search the hulls of vessels in port and at anchor as part of security screening, evidence recovery or other purposes.

Underwater hull inspections are considered an overhead environment and as such require additional training, safety measures and team protocols when these operations are occurring. It will often entail additional risk, extremely poor diving conditions and specific skill sets are required to accomplish the mission successfully.

The purpose of the ERDI Hull Inspection course is to provide the team members the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct hull inspections while identifying hazards not only to the team members but the public as well such as pollution, explosive recognition, contraband and the physical hazards such as overhead environment, intakes, exhaust, steering mechanisms and other dangers.

After successful completion of the ERDI Hull Inspection Ops program, team members are expected to understand protocols, search patterns and hazards to successfully conduct vessel hull inspections.

ERD ICE DIVING OPERATIONS
The ERD Ice Diving Ops Course is designed to acquaint the certified ERD I Diver with many of the hazards associated with ice diving, overhead environments, and how to plan and execute an ice penetration mission.

Who this course is for:
The certified ERD I Diver who conducts missions in/near frozen bodies of water
The certified ERD I Diver who penetrates ice during dive operations
The certified ERD I Diver who enters an overhead ice environment

ERDI NIGHT OPS
The ERDI Night Diving Ops Course is designed to acquaint the certified ERDI Diver with all procedures,
techniques, and potential hazards associated with diving at night. By becoming familiar with the use of dive
lights, and night diving techniques, tending procedures, communications, and buoyancy control, the diver
will be able to plan and execute a night dive with maximum safety.

Who this course is for:
Any ERDI Dive Team or team member who on special occasions conduct missions at night needing to learn the
necessary protocols for scene setup, safety protocols and more

ERD SMALL BOAT OPERATIONS
This course is designed to expand a diver’s knowledge in Small Boat Operations and is primarily intended to provide the minimum knowledge and skills that an individual must demonstrate to qualify to stand watch and/or perform other specific routine duties necessary for the safety, security or proper operation of a small craft in emergency response diving.

Who this course is for:
Any member of an emergency first response team who responds to operations in/near water
Any member of an emergency first response team who would like skills and knowledge needed to safely operate a small craft in accordance with local regulations
Any member of an emergency first response team who needs to utilize a small craft in the safe performance of emergency response diving

ERD SWIFT WATER OPS
The ERD Swift Water Ops Course is designed to provide information and hands-on training to students/team members who may be called upon to respond to a swift water call where no water entry is practical or possible. This is defined by NFPA 1006/1670 guidelines as “water moving at a rate greater than 1 knot.”

Who this course is for:
Any member of an Emergency First Response team who responds to operations in/near swift water found in high hills, mountain areas or in flash flood areas
Any member of an Emergency First Response team who responds to calls in rural and urban environments where water may be moving swiftly
Any member of an Emergency First Response team who would like to further educate themselves on the risks and procedures involved in swift water incidents

ERDI UNDERWATER CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION
The purpose of the ERDI Underwater Crime Scene Investigations Program is to provide necessary skills and knowledge in performing underwater crime scene investigations, preservation, and proper documentation for court-ready testimony.

Who this course is for:
Certified Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) officials, Coroners, Deputy Coroners, Certified Medical Legal Investigators (ABMDI)
Search and recovery dive personnel, rescue personnel who may respond to an in-water evidence search or a water related drowning
The public safety diver who may encounter potential evidence

ERD UNDERWATER THREAT ASSESSMENT (UTA) OPERATIONS
This course is designed to give the certified emergency response diver the skills and knowledge necessary for recognition and identification only of hazardous devices underwater. This course is not an explosives recovery course or renders safety in underwater explosives protocol.

Who this course is for:
A certified ERD I Diver who may come in contact with a potential threat or explosive
A certified ERD I Diver who would like to become more knowledge on the steps necessary to take if there is a potential for an explosive device
A certified ERD I Diver who would like the skills necessary to indentifying hazardous devices underwater
